Parasites
Parasites can be internal or external. Internal parasites are heartworms, hookworms, roundworms, whipworms, tapeworms, coccidia, giardia etc. Examples of external parasites are fleas and ticks. Any parasite can have a negative impact on your pets health, and if left untreated, some could even cause death.
Annual testing for parasites can detect an infection early, even if your pet is non-symptomatic. These include a fecal check which tests for intestinal parasites, a blood test which checks for heartworm disease, and a physical exam to check for fleas or ticks. It is imperative that you keep your pet on year-round parasite prevention, even one missed dose can result in infection. It will save you money on costly treatments in the future, and your pet uneccesary and preventable diseases. Monthly prevention may be more affordable than you think. Prices vary by type of preventative and your dog's weight and range from about $5 to $26 per month.
