Remembering the lives of our special family members

It's hard to say goodbye to our pets.  To pay respect and share how wonderful they were, some of our clients have written a little something about their departed friends.  If you would like to share your pet's story, please write us at info@portageanimalhospital.com

Scout
Jake

Scout came to us as a rescue 2 1/2 years old. We had 12 wonderful years with her until December. With her unhappy beginning, it always amazed us how she loved all humans and would gravitate toward them, even with other dogs around. She was adored by all 4 cats she lived with, including Buster who loved to lick her face and ears- a big job! We will always remember with love her grateful, gentle spirit.

Jake came to us 10 years ago. My husband picked him up from an abusive home. From that day till he passed away Nov 5th, 2009, he was my husbands constant shadow and companion. He was the boss as my husband referred him to as his man. Our house is quiet even though we have another dog Goldie who misses him terribly. They were inseperable.

Bunky
Chief

We adopted Chief when he was five years old. I can still remember finding the picture of him lying on a couch with a cat at his head and a baby at his feet. We knew he would be the perfect fit for us. We picked him up in Columbus, Ohio where he was being fostered. I had never met a lab that wouldn't fetch or swim until Chief came along but he had the spirit of a pup and would prove to be the best running partner anyone could have. He passed away unexpectedly on April 15, 2010. A week later, I completed my first half marathon. I miss my running partner every day, but his spirit lives within every race I run. Chief will always remain forever in our hearts.

Morgan had a wonderful spirit.  We were only blessed to have her in our life for a short year.  We adopted her at age 10 and she passed away at age 11 this past February.  She was very loving, and loved to give hugs.  She was scared of thunderstorms and was obsessed with playing fetch.  Although, fetch always turned into "keep-away" from us and the other dogs :)  Our house feels empty even with our 3 other pets, we miss her greatly.

Cheeto was the most amazing, loving cat ever! She showed love like we had never seen before. She had 12 wonderful years and we cannot thank the staff of Portage Animal Hospital enough for ALL the care and concern they had for Cheeto during her trying times of illness. She gave the unconditional love day in and day out. She knew she was

and still is loved by us.

We miss her terribly as

she left us June 25th,

2009 but the memories

are priceless.

Heart to Heart- Part One

Do you hear me? Is your aged mind processing my requests? Or are the dim distant sounds merely bouncing somewhere off to your left? They also had to take your troubled eyes. They said you would adjust. Did I ask too much of your already compromised life? Perhaps I should have let you go then, but the time wasn't right for you or for me. Will I know, or will you have to scream it in my ear? Like I must now shout my routine requests. Come-stay-sit up- over here- not there- careful - no- good dog. Every command- a challenge- a question. Do you hear me?

Still, your tail wags when I come home. Your sightless shaggy face follows my scent. You respond to the faint sounds as I approach. You're content when you're snuggled close by my side. You nuzzle my neck when I whisper in your ear how much you're loved. I'll do what I promised when you're ready to go. I will hear you. I'll know when that dreaded time is here. I know you will tell me. Heart to Heart.

Heart to Heart- Part Two

The time has come. The struggle is almost through. Your message is clear. I will do as I have promised. For you - not for me.

You will suffer no more. You will go where you can run and chase. Where there is no pain- no confusion- no darkness. Where those who have gone before you will be there to greet you. Where there is only fun, treats, toys and long walks in vivid color.

Sixteen years is not enough for me. But this is not about me- it's about you. It's about trust, loyalty and promises. You nuzzle my neck as I whisper to you one more time how much you're loved. Your body relaxes; your spirit is released. Your light fades too quickly in my arms. Now we are truly bound for eternity heart to heart.

Love poems for Muttley

                    In Loving Memory

                          Of Bunky

                      A friendly smile,

                      a casual touch.

                  These are the things,

                   that mean so much.

To know you are with us,

                  in our time of sorrow,

                  sharing our prayers,

                   today and tomorrow.

                  God gives us comfort,

in the form of good friends.

May his peace be with you,

                    his love never ends.
